On behalf of our clients who work at the interface of engineering and cell biology to develop human biomimetic platforms (more commonly known as Organ-on-Chip (OOC) or Microphysiological Systems (MPS) for the testing and development of therapeutics for serious human diseases.

Currently they are seeking a Senior Scientist to join their growing team.

This is a multi-disciplinary role working mainly as part of a small research and development team. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and growing team in our new, purpose-built premises on the Cambridge Science Park.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead assay development projects from idea to publication
  • Design and execute experiments for the development of novel Organ-on-Chip disease models and multi-organ cultures
  • Development and performance of cell culture protocols and Organ-on-Chip assays in support of in-house and pharmaceutical research programmes
  • Establish and lead collaborative projects with academic or industrial partners to help enhance the capabilities of CN Bio’s bioengineered devices
  • Rigorous analysis and interpretation of experiments and presentation of data in numerous formats
  • Deliver presentations and posters at conferences and speak knowledgeably about Company products and the scientific areas in which they work
  • Provide technical input and training to customers and potential customers if required, in order to ensure that the benefits and potential of the products are well understood
  • Use knowledge of the customers’ needs to feedback to the sales team, to help them to align the sales activities appropriately
  • Work with other members of the companies H&S committee to maintain standards of H&S across the company
  • Maintaining/reviewing/updating Company SOP’s, recommending updates and improvements where necessary
  • Ensure staff training is provided at appropriate intervals and up to date training records are kept on file
  • Contribute proactively to scientific discussions and meetings
  • Share scientific knowledge, gained from research, reading and attending conferences, with colleagues
  • As part of the team, share responsibility for and ownership of health & safety
  • Support and assist other team members wherever necessary
  • Update and support all team member on all H&S related issues/challenges




  • Some experience of working within bioengineering, 3D cell culture or organs-on-chips or advanced in vitro models would be an advantage.
  • Experience in cell culture, having worked in an academic or industrial research laboratory
  • Experience of primary human cell-based assays and in vitro assay development in a pharmaceutical environment would be particularly advantageous
  • Expertise in a broad array of relevant laboratory techniques (molecular biology, immunoassays, cell-based assays), preferably including primary cell culture and qPCR
  • Experienced with document and process management with a keen eye of detail


Qualifications and Selection Criteria

  • PhD (or MSc plus 5 years industry research experience) in Biology, Immunology or related life-sciences subject
  • Exemplary communication skills in English, both verbal and written, and able to present scientific/technical information in a way that is appropriate to the audience
  • Good networking skills; friendly, personable and engaging
  • Evidence of building good working relationships with collaborators
  • Credible and able to influence based on sound knowledge
