They have over 16,000 employees around the world and are now looking for a Senior Development Engineer to join their company which had more than $4.6billion annual sales in 2016.

 

 

Job Description:

 

This position is responsible to deliver and implement designated projects, incorporating the underlying science, technological support and manufacturing process that fulfil the needs of the project and therefore the business.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Technical Investigations: Define the overall strategy for designing and developing products, developing manufacturing processes and ensure this strategy is reviewed and agreed within the NPD team, and with any manufacturing or third parties involved in the project.

Develop an understanding of customer needs for a specific new product opportunity in order to generate product performance specifications, and apply knowledge of materials and technologies to generate and evaluate potential technical solutions.

 

  • Project Delivery: Ensure identification and delivery of all activities necessary, via implementation of a project plan, to support design and manufacture of products for designated projects in compliance with relevant quality management systems. This includes the development of underlying science and technological support, identification of resource and skill requirements.

 

  • Project Control: Responsible for forecasting and control of the project spend associated with the technical work.

 

  • Team Management: Coach and manage technical and project team members to meet the needs of the business.

Deputize for the Programme Manager as required or requested.

Consider and implement improved ways of working with the NPD team.

 

  • Compliance: Provide the major interface between the project and design control activities, ensuring that technical work streams maintain compliance and that the file is suitable for audit by the appropriate bodies e.g. FDA and BSI.

Perform all activities in compliance with relevant Quality Systems Standards.

 

  • Health & Safety: Promote health and safety policies and procedures to encourage a safe working environment.

 

  • This role will require some business travel as needed to support the projects

 

 

Background:

 

  • An honours degree in an Engineering discipline + proven and significant experience in a technical role within a new product development environment, Or science A-levels + substantial relevant experience in a new product development environment. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of technology relevant to new product development within the medical device sector is highly desirable.
  • Practical experience of using design control standards, technical work systems and verification and validation systems.

 

 

Competencies:

 

  • Demonstrates effective planning, budgeting and influencing skills.
  • Can work effectively in a collaborative environment in a complex matrix organisation.
  • Ability to facilitate decisions with a large team and a range of levels.
  • Knowledge of documentation systems and the regulatory field associated with EU Class III new products within the medical devices is highly desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrate and utilise creative and problem solving tools, e.g.: FMEA, PROBLEM, etc.
  • Meet deadlines and frequent assignment changes and periodic heavy workload.
  • Operate computer equipment, copy machines, pilot / production equipment for medical devices.
  • Communicate effectively both by phone and in face-to-face meetings.
  • Move between the different office and site facilities.
  • Read and interpret complex material.
