Our client is an industry leading supplier for delivery of injectable products and point-of-care diagnostic consumables, who are looking to recruit a Research and Early Development Manager to join their team. As a Research and Early Development Manager you will manage a portfolio of innovation opportunities in line with our client’s innovation strategy and ensure pharmaceutical requirements are integrated into all innovation and product development activities.


  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a technical discipline
  • Solid and demonstrable experience in Innovation, gained within a similar industrial environment.
  • Programme management experience and significant experience of managing multifunctional teams at senior level
  • Good working knowledge of relevant software tools. Capable MS Excel and Project User
  • Commercial acumen and experience of managing multi-million pound projects and programmes


  • Act as Project Sponsor to a number of complex, multi-discipline product development projects, with specific emphasis on early stage activities, providing timely issue resolution, expert knowledge and key decisions at each stage of the project.
  • Management of new internal and external product development projects, setting the direction for the technical work, overseeing the overall project direction and taking responsibility for the quality, communication and delivery of the output for complex projects.
  • Collate inputs, review and prepare technical reports and design documentation for internal and external use ensuring that they are accurate and informed.
  • Demonstrate a high level of adherence to ISO 13485, FDA CFR 820 and associated Design Control requirements.
  • Generate monthly project reports, quantifying progress, performance, cost and associated internal risk relative to the achievement of project goals
  • Work with the commercial team to liaise with (potential) clients regarding new product development, delivering proposals for clients covering objectives, deliverables and timescales for new programmes.
  • Member of the Innovation Leadership team – jointly responsible for agreeing the direction of the group, implementing Innovation strategy and managing resourcing of Innovation projects.
  • Establish senior relationships both internally and externally (especially within the pharmaceutical industry) with strong ability to influence in line with business and programme requirements.
  • Design market strategies through the tracking, analysis and evaluation of client and competitor activities to identify potential threats and opportunities to the continuous improvement of company’s competitiveness.


  • Pharmaceutical and / or medical device experience development / manufacture
  • Further degree in Engineering, Drug Delivery or Pharmaceutical Science
  • Strong technical aptitude
