Our clients have developed an innovative minimally invasive technology to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Based in a new facility in Dublin city, they are looking for a Principal Research and Development Engineer to join the core development team.

The R&D Principal Engineer will join the team in the advancement of a polymer based imaging catheter with CMOS technology, developing final design specifications of a prototyped design, and supporting manufacturing process development with key vendors. Future projects will include verification/validation testing of the device ahead of clinical trial and regulatory approval.

The role will report to the CTO and have an exciting opportunity to work across all stages of device development. The candidate will work with quality and regulatory teams to ensure the device meets user, regulatory and ISO 13485 requirements. Candidates should have a hands-on approach to projects with a motivated attitude and strong work ethic. An ability to work and adapt in a flexible and fast paced environment is essential.

Responsibilities and Contribution:

  •  Manage and fulfil day to day R&D activities of product design, development, manufacture and testing of a novel device, from concept stage through to regulatory approval.
  • Liaise and support vendors during early stage manufacturing development of imaging catheter device components, advantageously including PCB design, sensor technology integration, micro moulding and catheter technology.
  • Provide technical leadership to the R&D team, promote technical innovation and high standard of engineering.
  • Promote a quality culture within the R&D team, delivering projects to specification on time and in budget.
  • Liaise with other function leaders and managers to communicate R&D activities in line with R&D strategy
  • Support CTO in KOL relationship development with technical demonstrations, data, presentations.
  • Support the CTO in managing the innovation process, invention disclosure and IP filing.

Skills and Experience Required:

  •  Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering or Science discipline
  • 10 years’ experience in medical device industry in a related role
  • Project planning skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing R&D projects
  •  Excellent written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • A self-starter with a high level of motivation, positive attitude, and sense of responsibility
