They have over 16,000 employees around the world and are now looking for a Principal Engineer to join their company which had more than $4.6billion annual sales in 2016.


Reporting to the Director, Product Development, the Principal Engineer will have experience of the fundamentals of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering, which enables them to take a multi-disciplinary approach to product design in Medical Devices, whilst providing subject matter expertise in one discipline. In addition to working with the internal design teams, the role requires engagement with experts in the industry-leading development partners, as well as medical professionals and entrepreneurs. 


Job Description:


  • Providing coaching and mentoring to project teams on the design and implementation of overall engineering design,
  • Assisting the team in bringing together component sub-systems into a whole and ensuring that those sub-systems function together on complex medical devices,
  • Serving as an authority on engineering approaches in specialist engineering discipline to designing and developing complex medical devices
  • Creating value for shareholders and customers through the creation of technologies, products or processes that provide real benefit to customers and patients.
  • Design, develop, plan and deliver engineering work packages to meet relevant customer needs for the development of Medical Devices.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in relevant engineering discipline (e.g. electronics, software) into the Design Team, as well as general engineering principles (e.g. System, mechanical, electrical).
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define requirements in relation to area of engineering expertise that are appropriate, realizable, and testable. 
  • Contribute to, or lead where appropriate, design risk management.
  • Ensure designs are suitable for transfer to manufacture by collaborating with Manufacturing Engineering in developing test methods, equipment acquisition for new product testing, validations/qualifications, statistical analysis of data for significance, and other documented requirements for quality objectives.
  • Generate documentation packages to support Regulatory submissions, and post-market support to Commercialisation of launched products.
  • To proactively coach and mentor the performance of team members in engineering disciplines and professional development needs.
  • Identify and implement improvements to development processes in R&D.
  • To apply high standards of occupational Health & Safety in the workplace to comply with company policy and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to cGMP, cGDP, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, US FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and any other applicable quality standards or regulations concerning Medicinal Products and Medical Devices





  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate Engineering based discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant new product development, requirements management, risk management, verification & validation, and technical leadership experience within a regulated industry required.
  • Ideally, technical experience with the development of complex medical devices or other highly regulated product, likely to comprise of Mechanical, Electrical and software elements.
  • Technical experience with sterile disposable medical devices preferred.
  • Medical device experience preferred.
