Our client’s manufacturing centre plays a key role in the development and manufacture of new, sophisticated medical technology. They are now looking to recruit Mechanical Engineers to work in a multi-disciplinary team of R&D engineers in a facility, fully equipped with the latest computer-aided design and modelling technologies, to enable them to develop medical devices. Our client invests in both their people and the latest equipment and processes to remain at the forefront of manufacturing technology.

On their behalf, we are now searching for highly motivated and creative Mechanical Engineers to join our client’s Research and Development team. Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineers that enjoy following their designs from detailed design through to a successful global launch. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be asked to design, develop and follow up through to a manufacture.  

This is an ideal role for someone with a high attention to detail and looking for a challenging position with opportunity for future growth and development.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical design and development of medical devices according to company procedures and regulatory standards (ISO 13485)
  • Develop detailed designs from initial concept ideas
  • Design for manufacture
  • Reviewing, analysing and approving the product design
  • Compiling technical documentation to support the design process
  • Assisting with the management of work packages for new product development & product improvement projects
  • Using technical & product knowledge and problem-solving abilities to support other team members and other departments
  • Performing tolerance analysis, product risk analysis, FMEAs, design reviews, value analysis and quality incident investigations

Your Qualifications:

  • Degree/HNC/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Applied knowledge and experience of good design practice & engineering change control
  • Applied knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering principles, eg material, structures, thermal analysis, fluid analysis
  • Applied knowledge and experience of variety of manufacturing processes, eg machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting and extruding are essential
  • Experience from within the Medical Device field and Regulatory standards ISO13485, ISO14971, ISO60601, ISO62366 would be an advantage, however, is not pre-requested; all highly regulated industry experience is valued
  • High familiarity with 3D CAD and associated analysis tools, SolidWorks literate to expert level
  • Experience of Microsoft Office and Product Data Management (PDM) systems

Proven experience of:

  • Technical research
  • Application of Mechanical Engineering principles
  • Mechanical design to meet design requirements and optimise for manufacture 
  • Generating ideas and selecting the best way forward according to requirements
  • Problem solving
  • Conducting and reporting on Quality Investigations (preferred)
  • Structural mechanics, fluid mechanics,  electro-mechanical or optical products (preferred)
  • CFD and/or FEA (preferred)
