Manufacturing Engineer - New Product Introduction -Plymouth

Working both within the Engineering team and in the rest of the Manufacturing organisation, developing a wide range of products and processes.

This position will involve undertaking all aspects of the introduction of new products into manufacturing.  Working closely with the project engineers, this person would be expected to take responsibility for ensuring process capability to achieve Quality Cost Delivery (QCD) requirements and regulatory compliance of new product introductions and of changes to existing products/processes.

Delivering project deliverables within planned project & product cost constraints and timescales.

Provide manufacturing engineering expertise & knowledge in support of the manufacturing organisation goals.


Principal Responsibilities

  • Participate in project meetings, stage reviews & design reviews
  • Reviewing component design concepts, drawings and specifications
  • Supply advice & direction to project engineers with respect to efficient manufacturing methods
  • Communicating effective process flow charts and manufacturing routes.
  • Design & introduce new manufacturing processes and commission production layouts / cells if required
  • Specifying & procuring production equipment (to support NPI / CI or replace existing)
  • Preparing manufacturing documentation required for production (e.g. process control plans, work instructions, etc)
  • Set up of Syspro (Enterprise Resource Planning Software) manufacturing data including BOM and Route
  • Generation of engineering change requests and cost estimates for evaluation
  • Implementing of approved engineering change notes
  • Control of customer design data (e.g. drawing control)
  • Provide ongoing support to maintain and improve production QCD
  • Manufacturing data and variance analysis / control
  • Planning, progressing & coordinating improvement projects to defined timescales & budget
  • Provide input to PFMEA's and progress relevant actions
  • Documenting process verification exercises in line with validation procedure
  • Providing support to purchasing in component / supplier sourcing, assessments & approval
  • Training and skill transfer to operators & engineers
  • Support health & safety, COSHH, PUWER risk assessments as required
  • Maintain knowledge base of contemporary manufacturing philosophies and processes
  • Design & procurement of production jigs & tooling
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities.


Qualifications and Experiences

  • Qualified to a minimum of HNC or HND in an engineering discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques & QCD targets
  • Experience of Engineering Projects / Repetitive Manufacturing
  • Ability to Interpret Engineering Drawings
  • 2+ years working in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Computer & IT literacy, familiarity with Office software tools
  • Good written & oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Good problem solving & analytical skills
  • Methodical & good attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (desirable)
  • Familiarity with Autocad factory design software (desirable)
  • Project Management using Microsoft Project (desirable)
