Our Client is a life sciences company delivering human-focused research and discovery enabled by a unique and proven Organ-on-a-Chip platform. They are at the forefront of the rapidly growing field of human Organs-on-Chips thanks in part to being a successful co-recipient with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 of a $26M US Federal contract to develop the “Human Body-on-a-Chip”: a tablet sized device incorporating ten miniature interacting human organs.


Job Description:

The Laboratory Manager will join a dynamic and growing team in their specialised premises in Cambridge Science Park.

The candidate will have the multi-tasking ability and flexibility to work in this dynamic and ever evolving environment and will work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.




  • Provide technical support to a team of Senior Scientists and Engineers to deliver cutting-edge research in the form of pharmaceutical alliances, grant-funded projects and in-house R&D programmes.
  • Ensure that proper budgetary, operational and regulatory compliance needs are met in the Company’s state-of-the-art Category II laboratories.
  • Be responsible for the establishment and implementation of bio-safety, security and standard operating procedures and processes in the CL2 lab. 
  • Act as liaison with the Company’s senior management, research supervisors, lab staff/support/vendors and with Facilities Management at the Science Park regarding facility engineering controls required for the proper functioning of our labs. 
  • Be the primary interface with regulatory agencies including the UK’s Health & Safety Executive and be responsible for application and maintenance of regulatory licenses/permits.
  • Offer flexibility and assist the company in managing workflow, you will also perform some experimental work including basic in vitro cell culture techniques and analyses, you will be a diligent and careful scientist well accustomed to rigorously following operating protocols.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining stocks of important cell cultures, performing assays and other laboratory tests, and completing basic data analysis in order to produce reliable and precise reports.
  • Other duties will include housekeeping, ensuring the lab is well-stocked and resourced, training members of staff and following the Company’s HSE policies/procedures to ensure the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues.



  • BSc degree in Biological Sciences
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ work experience in a related laboratory role
  • Solid background with molecular biology techniques, including PCR and cell biology
  • Preferable experience in biological health and safety management
  • Excellent record-keeping including laboratory notebooks
  • High standard of computer literacy, particularly relating to MS Word, Excel and email
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and ability to use initiative
  • Flexible and excellent team working skills
